Easily accessible, incredibly safe, and chock full of stunning natural beauty, Slovenia is lurking just behind Croatia as destinations in the Balkans that are getting ready to explode with tourism, okay, Croatia is already there.<\/p>\n

So, here are 6 reasons you need to go to Slovenia now.<\/p>\n

1. THE COASTAL TOWN OF PIRAN IS DOWNRIGHT ADORABLE<\/h3>\n

Piran<\/a> is so small that you won\u2019t need any transportation at all while you are there other than your own two feet. Walk along the coast to the lighthouse, climb the town walls for a view of the peninsula, go swimming in the crystal-clear water, and eat plenty of gelato.<\/p>\n

By the time that you leave, you\u2019ll be wondering why you should bother moving on at all.<\/p>\n

2. LAKE BLED IS THE PERFECT PLACE TO RELIVE YOUR CHILDHOOD FAIRYTALE DREAMS<\/h3>\n

The island in the center of Lake Bled is the most famous view in Slovenia for a good reason. Home to a small church and a handful of other buildings (and a gelato stand, can\u2019t forget that!), the island is the perfect destination to head to in one of the small rowboats available for rent along the coast.<\/p>\n

Still want more time around Lake Bled once you make it back to shore? Take a walk along the coast, go swimming, or make your way up to the gorgeous castle that overlooks the entire lake.<\/p>\n

3. THERE ARE SO MANY WATERFALLS<\/h3>\n

\u2026 And they are all stunning. Slovenia is home to some of the clearest and most vibrant water that I have ever seen, giving its waterfalls a special beauty. Savica Falls<\/a> and Pericnik Falls were some of our favorites!<\/p>\n

4. SLOVENIA IS THE PERFECT COUNTRY TO ROAD TRIP<\/h3>\n

Slovenia is tiny (smaller than Vermont!) and safe, with good roads, magnificent scenery and low-cost rental cars available: essentially, it is the definition of the perfect place to take a road trip.<\/p>\n

As a bonus, almost all of the major tourist attractions are concentrated in the western half of the country. Set up a home base near Triglav National Park or in Ljubljana<\/a> and you can reach almost anything you could want within a two-hour drive!<\/p>\n

5. LJUBLJANA IS THE CUTEST CAPITAL CITY THAT YOU\u2019VE EVER BIKED AROUND<\/h3>\n

Not only does Slovenia\u2019s small capital city have its own castle<\/a> and an aptly named dragon bridge<\/a>, Ljubljana is home to eclectic architecture, an adorable downtown, and incredible street art.<\/p>\n

All of this combines to create a fascinating city that just gets better once you grab a delicious dessert or giant hot chocolate from one of the many nearby cafes and sit down to people watch.<\/p>\n

6. SLOVENIA IS A EUROPEAN BARGAIN<\/h3>\n

Complete with a rental car for one week, a private Airbnb for one week, private rooms in hostels during the rest of our time, plenty of restaurant meals and in general not watching our budget very closely, we ended up spending\u2026 just over $50 per person\/per day in Slovenia!<\/p>\n

Stay in hostels, skip the rental car in favor of buses (they\u2019ll take you just about anywhere from Ljubljana!), or pinch your pennies a bit more, and the price will drop rapidly. It\u2019s hard to break the bank in Slovenia–but this gem would be worth it even if it did!<\/p>\n
